I might be a portrait photographer but...
I love to challenge myself. Sometimes that means shooting something completely foreign. In February I had the opportunity to shoot a friends newborn. It was a very different experience and I learned a lot from it. I also promised myself that "I WON'T DO NEWBORNS."
This promise faded as my older sister came closer to her due date. Two weeks ago I had the opportunity to take his newborn portraits. It was such a fun experience and I actually enjoyed it. (It helps that he is my first nephew.) After that session I became determined to try out Newborn photography one final time. If I still did not enjoy it, I could stop.

Then Canyon Lofgreen was born.
Laura Lofgreen has long been a supporter of my photography and cinematography. I have worked with her on a few projects before and I absolutely love the excitement and energy she brings to everything she does.
Laura is an amazing Mother, Author, Blogger, and Furniture Revivalist. I have no idea how she manages to do it all! When I saw that she had given birth to another beautiful boy, I was excited to approach her and ask if I could take his newborn photos.
She happily obliged :).

Two days later I met with Canyon and his sweet mother for their photoshoot!
We grabbed a few props including:
With these props, we journeyed to a nearby side yard with tall grass. We set up the props and were off to the races. Canyon was an amazing baby to shoot with and was not fussy at all. He responded well to our voices (at just 4 days old!), and we even got a few smiles out of him!
Altogether the shoot was everything I could have hoped for and more. I am definitely going to continue shooting Newborns; I love their tenderness and innocence.
